Ping under fire from spammers, says security firm

Despite being active for just a few days, Apple's Ping social network is already being invaded by spammers, says a Sophos security analyst. Some profiles, such as Katy Perry's, are reportedly being flooded with messages, often from scammers promising free Apple gear. "If half as many free iPads, iPhones and iPods were being given away as Ping comments might lead you to believe, there would be no reason to bother with going to an Apple store," comments Sophos' Chester Wisniewski....

shigginbotham

Apple found a way to cram a large number of iPhone 4 features in the new iPod touch: retina display, two cameras with FaceTime support, and the A4 chip. So it's just like a contract-free iPhone 4 without voice right? Wrong on at least three counts.

Shoot photos and upload fast to Facebook with SayCheeze iPhone app (Appolicious)

Appolicious - I'm not sure I'd necessarily say the process of shooting a photo with your iPhone and then opening your Facebook app to upload it is a particularly stressful one, but I suppose if you're looking to cut down on the extra step, SayCheeze might just be for you.

Apple's Ping a Scammer's Haven? Security Experts Say Watch Out (PC World)

PC World - Apple's music-focused social network, Ping is only a few days old, and already the iTunes-based feature is "drowning in scams and spams," security researchers say. The scams are nothing too advanced at the moment, and there are no reports of clickjacking worms or other forms of aggressive malware, experts say. But if you're looking for links to bogus surveys promising free iPhones, iPads, and other assorted iDevices, then Ping in iTunes 10 is the social network for you.

Apple manufacturers churning out 2 million iPads per month

Apple has greatly ramped up iPad production in the past few weeks, says Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty. Manufacturing partners are now said to be delivering 2 million iPads per month, double recent levels. The increase is likely the explanation behind current iPad shipping times, which have plummeted from 7 to 10 days to within 24 hours. Even the iPhone 4 is still suffering from three-week delays....

Global Qi wireless power standard released, Energizer and Sanyo announce products

It's no good buying an eCoupled inductive charger if it won't work with your Powermat, or your Touchstone. Non-standard chargers suck, so we're glad to see that the Global Qi wireless power standard has been released, and the first products have been announced. A number of companies, Nokia and RIM to name but a few, have signed on their support, with Energizer stepping up first with the Energizer Inductive Charger. When it releases this fall it will initially work with charging sleeves for the iPhone 3G/S and BlackBerry Curve 8900, but we presume others will be coming. More promising is Sanyo, which is designing battery packs "without making any change in designs and aspects of existing mobile devices." In other words: they'll look and act like a normal battery pack, but also be able to be charged wirelessly. Beware, ubiquitous micro-USB charger: your days are numbered.

SD Association vows breakthrough 300MBps SD card speeds

Following an announcement from Toshiba at IFA yesterday that it has developed SDHC memory cards based on the new UHS-1 standard, the SD Association today outlined its plans for its forthcoming SD 4.0 standard.
